CRABS Baltimore pub crawl 2023

Saturday April 1

With several new breweries opening since our 2018 Light Rail crawl, we decided to do it again. The threat of rain and wind deterred some people, but 8 of us braved the weather to visit several breweries.

We rode the Light Rail to the Ravens stadium, arriving shortly before noon, except Jason, who had taken an earlier train. The remaining 7 of us walked to Pigtown and met Jason at Wico Street Beer Company, which had just opened 4½ months earlier. We tried many beers between us; the ones I tried were:

By the time we left, the weather had gone from cloudy and a bit rainy to mostly sunny. We walked to Suspended Brewing, which opened at the end of 2017 and we had visited on our 2018 crawl. We tried just about every beer they had. I sampled:

Next we walked to Pickett Brewing, which opened on August 31, 2022. We ran into a couple of beer enthusiast friends. I sampled:

We walked back to the Light Rail...

... and rode up to the Woodberry stop. A stone's throw from there is Pariah Brewing, which opened on January 21, 2022. It's located where Union Brewing used to be. I tried:

Next we walked to an assembly of independently owned businesses called Union Collective. Our destination was a brewery but Jason, Gordon, Chris H., Christa, and I decided to visit Baltimore Spirits Company first. It went into business in 2014, started distilling in 2017, and has been at the Union Collective since 2018. It has a tasting room called the Cocktail Gallery. We tried 8 different spirits.

Then we met Chris A. and Ed at Union Craft Brewing (Joe had gone home). Gordon kept wandering off, and we issued a silver alert. Anyway, I sampled:

When we left it had started raining again. We walked to Waverly Brewing and the only beer I tried was:

Before leaving we issued another silver alert for Gordon. Then we got back on the Light Rail, went to the Cultural Center stop, and arrived at Wet City Brewing a little after 8:00. The place had a nice vibe. I tried:

Our last brewery of the day was The Brewer's Art. We tried all 6 of their drafts:

It was chilly and windy as we headed back to the Light Rail. We all got off at Cromwell Station. Gordon, Ed, and Jason went home, while Chris H., Christa, Chris A., and I went to Chris A.'s. We'd planned on drinking beer (not that we're alcoholics or anything) but first we wanted some food. Having food delivered would have taken close to an hour, so we went to Honey Bee Diner. After that we were too tired to drink, so Chris H. and Christa went home and I crashed at Chris A.'s.

It was a fun day, with 8 breweries, a distillery, and lots of beers.
